Photos by Dave & Connie Solon, taken with Canon A1 and Kodak disposable underwater cameras....
This is the coolest and wildest place on earth that I have visited so
far! While visiting
Grand Cayman, a beautiful island in the Caribbean, we took a boat about
1-2 miles out
from the coast to Stingray Sandbar (Stingray City). You can walk
on the bottom as it
is very shallow. We put on our snorkles and masks (no fins needed!)
and stepped in...
GENTLY so as not to step on any of our friends below! There were
so many different
rays, it was WONDERFUL! They were very friendly and if they smelled
squid on you,
they came right over. My wife wasn't so sure about the whole
thing, but once she got
into the water and saw these beautiful creatures it was hard to get
her back on the boat!
They glide, effortlessly through the water, silently like stealth bombers
beneath the
waves. They feel smooth and sometimes a little slimy, a really
neat texture!
They have quite a suction for eating as they have no teeth and I even
got a "hickey"
from one of them when he tried to suck on my arm after eating the squid
I fed him!
(Please visit my other pages on our travels, see the link at the bottom
of this page,
Stop by soon as I'll be adding more places and photos and make it neat
later)
